Stop Ashcroft from becoming Attorney General

24 December 2000: President-elect Bush has named the former Senator John Ashcroft (R-MO) as his nominee for Attorney General. This must not be allowed to stand. Write your Senator and demand they vote no on Ashcroft.

Why no to Ashcroft

Ashcroft does not represent America: Ashcroft's opinions on abortion, gay rights, and voting rights are the opposite of those held by the majority of Americans.
Bush has no mandate: Bush didn't win the popular vote, therefore he has no mandate, and no business naming extreme rightists to his government.

Dear Senator ______

I am writing to ask that you oppose the nomination of John Ashcroft for Attorney General. Ashcroft's values are inimical to those of Democrats everywhere, and the President-elect cannot expect to have extremists approved for his government given he did not carry the popular vote.
