Shevek the Cat

Photos: Previous Next

Update Shevek had to go back to the Palo Alto humane society's foster program. He's a great cat, but my other cat, Elby, and he didn't get along. The good thing about that program is that cats stay with foster homes until they are adopted.

When Julie and I split up, she took Ariel back East with her. I wanted another cat to keep Elby and I company. I thought about getting a purebred cat, but the angels of my better nature prevailed and I called the Palo Alto Humane Society. I learned they had a year-old siamese male they were wanting to place. I saw him Monday morning and the Humane Society's volunteers brought him by that night.

Shevek is the protagonist in Ursula K. Le Guin's novel The Dispossessed.

In the novel Shevek was an outsider in both his own society, an anarchist colony, as well as on his homeworld.

You can see he has a notch in one ear. The Humane Society does that to id the cats they place.

He is goofy looking for a siamese, I don't think he's purebred, or maybe he's the runt of a litter.
